Car’s headlights develop a film and become yellow or flakey with the passage of time because lights don’t have a clear coating from the company. This film dims the light and disperses it in a wider way making it difficult to drive at night.
Regularly cleaning car lights is an important safety measure that one should surely perform. There is a variety of chemical solutions available at auto shops but home remedies are often are even more effective and gentle.
Salt Application:
As we know, that salt is a caustic substance thus it will lightly scratch any surface that is in interaction with it. So, you need to mix salt with a small amount of water and start rubbing that film on the car’s lights, it will cause the cloudiness to be stamped off the light’s plastic.
Vinegar Application:
Vinegar is an acidic substance (Acetic acid) and is generally used to “spot clean” metals and plastics etc. first of all, you need to flood the lights in a bucket filled with white vinegar and leave for an hour. After soaking, you will see that cloudiness becomes soft and easy to wipe.
Sandpaper Technique:
The sandpaper is even more biting than salt and is optimal for very cloudy lights that seem difficult to clean. For sandpaper technique, you have to softly rub the cloudiness in a circular motion until the muddiness is gone. Then proceed towards polishing lights with vegetable oil, or car wax, etc. to remove small rasping that sanding will cause.
Plastic Polishing:
The scratches on headlights should be polished to make the plastic glowing and clean again. Any wax designed for plastics can be used to polish the lights. Usually, micro-fiber wipes work best when we talk about polishing, rub the polish into the light in a single direction until the polish dispose of.
Metal Polish:
Stagnant water that gets under the lights of the car generally leaves water “burn marks”. To get rid of watermarks and muddiness any metal or silver cleaner can be used. Then start rubbing the lights with a slightly biting cloth. Don’t let the cleaner stay for so long on the lights because it may affect the plastic.
Nail Buffer Cleaning:
A buffer generally used for the nails can help in polishing the car lights. Nail buffer helps in removing small scratches and giving the lights a new sheen. Using metal polish rub the buffer gently on lights until they are clean.
Soap and Warm Water:
Any type of hand wash works perfectly in removing road grime and dried on bugs. Fill a bucket with warm water and keep adding dish/laundry soap until bubbly solution is formed.
Use a piece of cloth to wet the lights with the detergent and let it soak for a few minutes. Keep scrubbing the lights with the cloth until all the muddiness has been removed from the lights. Now rinse it well and see if the lights are clean, if not scrub until the tar removes.
Baking Soda paste:
Keep mixing baking soda in water until a thick paste is made. Use a damp cloth to apply the paste on the lights. Rub the rag in a circular motion to gently remove the first layer of car lights and restore its previous sheen.
Toothpaste trick:
Wet a rag and fold it into a square about “4 inches” across. Put some toothpaste onto the folded rag, then start rubbing the toothpaste on the surface of the car lights. If car lights are extremely cloudy you may need to keep rubbing for several minutes and keep adding further toothpaste until the lights are clean. Then rinse the toothpaste and results will be amazing for sure.
